Radical Christian Sacrifice – John Piper

24 01 2010

Let’s pray together,
Father, we together now renounce, I do pray that these friends would do this with me, renounce all self-reliance. We renounce all vain glory. We renounce pride. We renounce greed. We renounce covetousness. We renounce cowardice and the fear of men. We renounce lust and those pornographic things that threaten to sweep our brains away, even this morning. We renounce anxiety about what is going on at home and ask for freedom. We renounce sinful anger, bitterness at people at our church and spouses who disappoint, mom who doesn’t understand at all what I am dreaming. We renounce satan in all his works and in all his ways and now together collectively, we submit to Christ and we submit to your Word. And, we ask for the Holy Spirit to brute over these thousands that something extraordinary would happen here for the sake of the glory of Christ and the good of the Church and the reaching of the nations, exceedingly and abundantly, beyond everything we have dreamed, and we have dreamed much. So come, come Holy Spirit. I ask in Jesus name. Amen.

My desire and prayer to God is that your life and your ministry would have a radical flavor. A gutsy, counter-cultural, war-time flavor that makes average American people in your church uncomfortable. A strange mixture of tenderness and toughness that keeps people a little bit off balance. A pervasive summons to something more and something hazardous, something wonderful. A saltiness and brightness about your life and about your church, something like Jesus.

Salt and light are joyful embrace of suffering. That’s for what the world is waiting for.

I don’t come here for nothing, I want something… I want you to do something. I want this world to be rocked by your lives.

Where are the young men and women of this generation who will hold their lives cheap, and be faithful even unto death, who will lose their lives for Christ’s, flinging them away for love of him? Where are those who will live dangerously, and be reckless in this service? Where are the men of prayer? Where are the men who count God’s Word of more importance to them than their daily food? Where are the men who, like Moses of old, commune with God face to face? Where are God’s men in this day of God’s power?

They are not impress with us: prosperous, wealthy, save, middle class, do whatever everybody does people. DON’T BUILD A CHURCH LIKE THAT!

Stephen’s face shown like an angel. His face shown like an angel. They couldn’t resist his wisdom and they killed him. And it will cost you your life to build a church that doesn’t live like the rest of the world. You got to live like that. You got to have a flavor about your life that is risky and radical and different.

The only people that are of any earthly good are those who are radically heavenly minded that they are free from this world. Free from STUFF, STUFF, STUFF, STUFF, STUFF IS KILLING US! Houses are killing us, books are killing us, carpet is killing us, cars are killing us, computer are killing us.What creates this craziness, what creates this radical risk-taking sacrificial life is the reward that is coming and it is everything to me!

We treasure our future reward, vastly more than we treasure this world and our family, our wives, our children, our books, our ministry, sex, food, exercise, vacation, job, success, friendship, a claim. We treasure our future reward a thousand more than we treasure our children, our wives, our churches.

Christ- supreme, glorious, magnificent, personal and precious is that reward.
He is God’s final revelation.
He is the heir of all things.
He is the creator of the world.
He is the radiance of God’s glory.
He is the exact imprint of God’s nature.
He upholds the universe by the word of his power.
He made purification for sins
He sits at the right hand of the Majesty
He is God, enthroned forever, with a scepter of uprightness.
He is worshiped by angels.
His rule will have no end.
His joy is above all other beings in the universe.
He took on human flesh.
He was crowned with glory and honor because of his suffering.
He was the founder of our salvation.
He was made perfect in all his obedience by his suffering.
He destroyed the one who has the power of death, the devil.
He delivered us from the bondage of fear.
He is a merciful and faithful high priest.
He made propitiation for sins.
He is sympathetic because of his own trials.
He never sinned.
He offered up loud cries and tears with reverent fear, and God heard him.
He became the source of eternal salvation.
He holds his priesthood by virtue of an indestructible life.
He appears in the presence of God on our behalf.
He will come a second time to save us who are eagerly waiting for him.
He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Therefore, let us go to Him outside the camp and bear the reproach He endured. Jesus is not standing back and say, “Go there!” He is saying, “I am right at here” You are in there which is so comfortable, it is so save inside Jerusalem, it is so save inside the church, inside the house. “I am at here, come to Me!” Brothers and sisters, the sweetest fellowship with your Savior and your treasure that you will ever know is the fellowship of His sufferings.

FOR HIM – Paul Washer

7 10 2009

You don’t need self esteem, you need the knowledge of God.
It’s all about Him.
Your heart beats for Him.
You were given breath for Him.
You were given strength for Him.
You were given a mind for Him.
You were given everything you were given for Him and it is only by living for Him that you’ll ever going to find purpose and meaning.
And even in that, you will not find purpose and meaning if your goal is to find purpose and meaning.

You should believe in Jesus Christ, you should repent and you should serve Him even if He sends you to hell.
Because He is worthy of repentance, He is worthy of faith and He is worthy of service, though, you will get nothing from it.
Do you understand that kind of Christianity?
Where it is all about HIM and not about men.

For what reason does our heart beat?
For what reason does our chest heave and draw in breath?
There is only one reason: It is FOR HIM!
Men were not made for men.
This world was not made for men.
Men were made for God.

And the Christian says, “I was born in sin. In sin did my mother conceived me. I have broken every law of God and I deserve the full extend of His Just Wrath against me.”

I am trusting in the virtue and the merit of another – Jesus Christ my LORD.

All to Him.
Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to the cross I cling.
I need no other argument.
I need no other plea.
It is enough that Jesus died – that He died for me.

Young man came to me one time and said, “You are right brother Paul. You are right. Jesus is all we need.”
I said, “young man, Jesus is all we have! He is not just all we need.”
Outside of Him, there is nothing.
You need to understand that great book of Colossians not only teaches us that the world was created by Christ and for Him – It was created in Christ.

Everything outside of Jesus Christ is not reality.
Everything outside of Jesus Christ is absolutely absurd.
Everything outside of Jesus Christ is death.
There is nothing: there is no right reality, no logic, there is no sense, there is no reason, there is no rhythm.
Nothing works.
Everything was made to be in Christ.

Your greatest problem is lashing yourself down to this truth.
Total surrender to the person and will of Jesus Christ, for the Glory of Jesus Christ.

That men might see what they are and in seeing what they truly are – having their hearts exposed they will see their need of a savior.
But while, you play with them and cuddle them and protect their so-called self-esteem, you at the same time damn their soul to hell.

It seemed like every time I get up to preach in a meeting, some person would get up and sing a song that asks the question, “Oh God, what did you see in me that you saved me?”
I felt like a kid at school with his hands raised in the back, “Oh pick me I’ll tell you.”
What di- What did God see in you?
He saw an object of wrath.
He saw someone that have broke every law that He have ever made and live a dislocated, perverted life.
That is what He saw.
Why did He saved you?
Two reasons: God is Love.
Secondly, to demonstrate His Glory, His Mercy, His Attributes.
Not only to the world but even beyond.

You were given everything you were given for Him and it is only by living for Him that you’ll ever going to find purpose and meaning.
