The Unconditional Love of Christ – Paul Washer

15 02 2011

He looks at you and He says this, “Father, such is my love to this one person and my piety for them after they have broken every command” He still says, “such is my love” and “such is my piety” Proud man say, “I don’t want Your piety!” You need His piety. You need His piety. We are pitiful. He says, “such is my love to and piety for them that rather that they shall perish eternally, I will be responsible for them as their guarantee. Bring in all Thy bills, Father, that I may see what they owe Thee.”

Now, sometimes a young man will get marry and after he gets married, he will start to get a little bit shaky on his commitment. He said, I had no idea marriage was this tough. I don’t know if this is really what I am made to do.” You see. He was boasting how much he would love this girl, he had no idea the commitment that he was going to have to make. But that is not true with Christ. Here He says to the Father, “Father bring in everything they owe Thee. Let Me see it.”

Imagine this: He sees everything that you owe justice. He doesn’t go to that cross blindly. He doesn’t get on the cross and say, “No Father, I don’t want to do this! I didn’t know that it would cost so much.” He knew from eternity how much it would cost Him and yet, He still did it. But listen to this: Bring in all Thy bills that I may see what they owe Thee. Lord, bring them all in” Now listen, believers if this doesn’t make you so happy, you weep or cry out for joy you are not understanding what I am saying. He says, “Bring in all the bills. Bring them all in that there may be no after-reckonings with them.”

Do you see what He is saying? “Bring in everyone of their bills from the time they were born to the time they die. Everything they owe Thee Father. Bring them all in. I want to see them all and on that tree, I want to pay for them all there so that you would never have to deal with them with regard with their sin.” Do you see that, believer? He never has to deal with you again. It’s over! All your crimes are paid for: your crimes in the past, your crimes in the present, your crimes that you are going to commit in the future; all of them paid for! And some people say, “Well if you tell that to people, they will just sin.” No, they won’t; not true believers. Carnal, wicked lost churches members will hear that and go on sinning but believers will say, “If His love is like that. If He has set me free completely, I am His. I don’t want to sin anymore. I don’t want to sin anymore.”

You see brothers, that’s what leads to holiness, that’s why the gospel is called: the mystery of godliness. You see that? It’s the thing that produces godliness in the believer. Yes there are commands and there are rules but that is not what makes us godly. What makes us godly is knowing that Jesus died and that He died for me. And when He died He paid for every sin past present and future, and God will never again, never, call me in to His judgment Hall, to judge me. Never again. I am free. I am free. O thank God I am free.

And you say, But brother Paul, it’s says that there’s going to be a judgment for a believer. Yeah but listen to this, in that judgment, when you look up unto the Judge’s face, it will be your Father, it will be your Brother. The One who judges you is the One who died for you. Don’t you see that? You’re free. You’re free. No guilt. Always come to Him. Always go back to Him. Always run to Him. You’re free. You finally walked through a door that no one in this world knows anything about–it’s unconditional love. You’re just loved and it can’t be changed now! Because of that perfect work of Christ there on that tree on your behalf.
Christ so loved you, so loved His bride that He who was ruler of all things, the heir of the universe and beyond. He became a servant because of His love for His bride. Because of His love for you as individuals.

Thoughts On That Judgment Day – Leonard Ravenhill

26 01 2010

Oh God, stamp eternity on my eyeballs! But you know if God should stamp eternity or even judgment on our eyeballs or if you’d like on the fleshy table of our hearts. I am quite convinced we’d be  a very very different tribe of people, God’s people, in the world today.

We live too much in time, we are too earth bound. We see as others men see. We think as other men thinks. We invest our time as the world invests it. We invest our money. We are supposed to be a different breed of people. I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ needs a new revelation of the majesty of God. We’re all going to stand one day… can you imagine it?.. At the judgment seat of Christ to give an account for the deeds done in the body.

This is what – this is the King of kings and He’s the Judge of judges and it’s the Tribunal of tribunals and there’s no court of appeal after it. The verdict is final.

Listen, when you see Jesus, you’re not going to go up and say “Hey buddy, I’m glad You died for me.” When you see Jesus you will be almost paralyzed with fear unless you have a glorified body and a glorified mind.

You say, “Well Mr. Ravenhill, I won’t be in serious trouble because you know, I don’t have a good memory.” Well, I’ll tell you what, you’ll have one that day. In Malachi, it says that God has a book of remembrance. And I think it would do you good before you go to bed every night this week to ask God, “What did you put in Your book today for my life?”

Did you get up this morning and thank God you are pure, huh? Did you thank Him that the devilish fever you use to have for sniffing cocaine or drugs of something that He broke the shackles of it? Are you really glad you’re not a prostitute now, you’re going to be a part of the Bride of the Lamb? Are you glad He had remove from your heart covetousness and bad temper and all those creepy horrible things that use to master you?

The most shattering thought I’d ever had is my personal accountability to God one day. We are not going to be judged just because of what we’ve done, we’re going to be judged for why we did it! Not for the action, for the motive. What motivated your giving? Why? What’s the motive behind it? He doesn’t just take your sins, he takes your self, He takes the government of your life. And it is not only true we live in a world of bankrupt politics, we live in a world, and this is the tragic of all, of a bankrupt church.

When in God’s Name is the church going to open her heart again and open her mind again and see again? Cam God forgive every sin I’ve ever committed? I said, He sure can. That is if you repent of your sin and you plead for the Blood of Christ and you ask for mercy. That tender Christ who went about doing good and He kissed little babies and blessed people… Now, ahh… there is nothing more beautiful than a little lamb. There is nothing more terrible than the wrath of the Lamb.

God should bring every work into judgment with every secret thing. The dead, small, and great are going to stand before God in that awesome day. But say, Am I just a showman? What’s my secret life like? ‘Cause God has not merely given us Jesus Christ, He has given us all things. And because there isn’t enough joy in the house of God, we need entertainment. Because entertainment is the devil’s substitute for joy.

I think before we point the finger at the world, we better turn to the church and say: “Look we’d better all get sackcloth and ashes and humble ourselves and say Almighty God.”

When I see the church in the New Testament, the didn’t have stately buildings, they didn’t have paid evangelists. They didn’t have a  lot of money. They didn’t have organization. They couldn’t get on TV and beg. But I’ll tell you what they did – they turned the world upside down!! And I’m embarrassed to be a part of the church of Jesus today because I believe it’s an embarrassment to a Holy God.

Most of our joy is clapping our hands and having a good time and then afterward, we’re talking all the dribble of the world.

Oh to be lost in Him! To be consumed in Him!

You get so near to the heart of God, that you share His grief over a world and over a backslidden church that we have today. Because if you’re going to get mature in God, all the dwarfs around you will criticize and sneer at you and say, “You’re trying to be holier than the rest of us, huh?”

You’ll discover this – the men who have been most heroic for God have been the men with the greatest devotional life. The only thing that will tie me in victory continually through the Blood of Christ is my personal devotions to Him, the Son of God. My adoration that I give Him my tribute everyday. It’s more than my service, it is more than giving my money. That I love Him and I adore Him and I magnify Him and I take Him as it were by the feet.

You know why the world is poor and sick outside? Because we really don’t know how to pray, that’s why.

I’ve said it many times, so I say it again this morning – that no man is greater than his prayer life. Let me live with a man awhile and share his prayer life and i’ll tell you how tall I think he is or how majestic I think he is in God.

It’s going to be an awesome day. You see there is no possible… no possibility of any rehearsal. And what, there’s no possibility of any repetition. Because again this is the final judgment.

I think again of a statement Dr. Tozer made to me once. He said, “Len you know what?” He said, “We’ll hardly get our feet out of time into eternity and gaze on eternity that we bow our heads in shame and humiliation and say: “My God, look at all the richest there were in Jesus Christ and I come to the judgment seat almost a pauper.”

Master forgive, and inspire us anew. Banish our worldliness, help us to ever live with eternity’s values in view.

Said that great man who birthed that revival – “God stamp eternity on my eyeballs.”

You know, if we can’t live as a different breed of people on this earth, we have no right to live here. And if we get back to a people who are really baptized with obedience, submissive to the total will of God. Not concerned about human opinion, not asking for more to spend prodigally on ourselves but say, “Oh God, I want this life of mine adjusted so when I stand in Your awesome presence.” As James says – we shall not be ashamed of His appearing.

Radical Christian Sacrifice – John Piper

24 01 2010

Let’s pray together,
Father, we together now renounce, I do pray that these friends would do this with me, renounce all self-reliance. We renounce all vain glory. We renounce pride. We renounce greed. We renounce covetousness. We renounce cowardice and the fear of men. We renounce lust and those pornographic things that threaten to sweep our brains away, even this morning. We renounce anxiety about what is going on at home and ask for freedom. We renounce sinful anger, bitterness at people at our church and spouses who disappoint, mom who doesn’t understand at all what I am dreaming. We renounce satan in all his works and in all his ways and now together collectively, we submit to Christ and we submit to your Word. And, we ask for the Holy Spirit to brute over these thousands that something extraordinary would happen here for the sake of the glory of Christ and the good of the Church and the reaching of the nations, exceedingly and abundantly, beyond everything we have dreamed, and we have dreamed much. So come, come Holy Spirit. I ask in Jesus name. Amen.

My desire and prayer to God is that your life and your ministry would have a radical flavor. A gutsy, counter-cultural, war-time flavor that makes average American people in your church uncomfortable. A strange mixture of tenderness and toughness that keeps people a little bit off balance. A pervasive summons to something more and something hazardous, something wonderful. A saltiness and brightness about your life and about your church, something like Jesus.

Salt and light are joyful embrace of suffering. That’s for what the world is waiting for.

I don’t come here for nothing, I want something… I want you to do something. I want this world to be rocked by your lives.

Where are the young men and women of this generation who will hold their lives cheap, and be faithful even unto death, who will lose their lives for Christ’s, flinging them away for love of him? Where are those who will live dangerously, and be reckless in this service? Where are the men of prayer? Where are the men who count God’s Word of more importance to them than their daily food? Where are the men who, like Moses of old, commune with God face to face? Where are God’s men in this day of God’s power?

They are not impress with us: prosperous, wealthy, save, middle class, do whatever everybody does people. DON’T BUILD A CHURCH LIKE THAT!

Stephen’s face shown like an angel. His face shown like an angel. They couldn’t resist his wisdom and they killed him. And it will cost you your life to build a church that doesn’t live like the rest of the world. You got to live like that. You got to have a flavor about your life that is risky and radical and different.

The only people that are of any earthly good are those who are radically heavenly minded that they are free from this world. Free from STUFF, STUFF, STUFF, STUFF, STUFF IS KILLING US! Houses are killing us, books are killing us, carpet is killing us, cars are killing us, computer are killing us.What creates this craziness, what creates this radical risk-taking sacrificial life is the reward that is coming and it is everything to me!

We treasure our future reward, vastly more than we treasure this world and our family, our wives, our children, our books, our ministry, sex, food, exercise, vacation, job, success, friendship, a claim. We treasure our future reward a thousand more than we treasure our children, our wives, our churches.

Christ- supreme, glorious, magnificent, personal and precious is that reward.
He is God’s final revelation.
He is the heir of all things.
He is the creator of the world.
He is the radiance of God’s glory.
He is the exact imprint of God’s nature.
He upholds the universe by the word of his power.
He made purification for sins
He sits at the right hand of the Majesty
He is God, enthroned forever, with a scepter of uprightness.
He is worshiped by angels.
His rule will have no end.
His joy is above all other beings in the universe.
He took on human flesh.
He was crowned with glory and honor because of his suffering.
He was the founder of our salvation.
He was made perfect in all his obedience by his suffering.
He destroyed the one who has the power of death, the devil.
He delivered us from the bondage of fear.
He is a merciful and faithful high priest.
He made propitiation for sins.
He is sympathetic because of his own trials.
He never sinned.
He offered up loud cries and tears with reverent fear, and God heard him.
He became the source of eternal salvation.
He holds his priesthood by virtue of an indestructible life.
He appears in the presence of God on our behalf.
He will come a second time to save us who are eagerly waiting for him.
He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Therefore, let us go to Him outside the camp and bear the reproach He endured. Jesus is not standing back and say, “Go there!” He is saying, “I am right at here” You are in there which is so comfortable, it is so save inside Jerusalem, it is so save inside the church, inside the house. “I am at here, come to Me!” Brothers and sisters, the sweetest fellowship with your Savior and your treasure that you will ever know is the fellowship of His sufferings.

Treasuring Him – John Piper

8 10 2009

HOW DOES PAUL MAKE CHRIST LOOK GREAT? Answer: by experiencing CHRIST as such a TREASURE that everything else in his LIFE is as NOTHING by comparison.

I count EVERYTHING: money as lost, food as lost, looks as lost, friends as lost, family as lost, job and success as lost, graduation as lost… IN COMPARISON with the TREASURE that CHRIST as become FOR ME.

Money is given to you so that you might use money in a way that shows money is not your treasure, Christ is.
Food is given to you so that you might eat it in such a way that it would be plain food is not your treasure, Christ is.
Friends, Family, are given to you so that you might live with them in such a way that it will be plain to the world they are not your treasure, Christ is.
Computers, Toys, Houses, Lands, Cars, are given to you so that you might use them in such a way that it would be plain to the world these are not your treaure, Christ is.

You talk about lifestyle implication…

The way we display the supreme worth of JESUS is by treasuring Him above all things and then making choices which make the joy we have in His supreme worth manifest.

Treasuring Him by John Piper

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,” –Philippians 3:8 (KJV)
More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ,” –Phil. 3:8 (NASB)
